The Razzy's Junior C Hockey League has announced that the 2013 All-Star Game will have an additional purpose. A portion of the proceeds from the game scheduled January 16th in Rustico, will go to support former Charlottetown player, Kyle Osmond, who was diagnosed with cancer in the offseason. He is currently undergoing treatments, and is unable to play in his last season of junior eligibility.
Kyle played in all three season since the Abbies returned to the league in 2009-10 and during that span he played in 104 games and recorded 119 points (52G, 67A). He was the team leader in goals and points and was second in games played over the three seasons the Abbies were in the league (2009-10 to 2011-12). He also helped the team capture the Island Championship in 2010-11 and represent PEI in the 2011 Maritime-Hockey North Junior C Championship in Clare, NS. Kyle is a 4th-year University student at UPEI.
"His coaches describe him as a good kid who loves to play", says league commissioner, Jared Doucette. "He's the type of player who's commitment to staying involved in the sport is what keeps this league going, so it's great to see the league step up and show their support."
The game will feature a team of 2013 League All-Stars against a team of League Alumni All-Stars in a one-night only exhibition game. Doucette is currently receiving strong applicants for the alumni team, but any other interested players can apply for a spot through the league website at PEIJuniorC.com.
