Jonathan started played minor hockey in squirts in the North River Minor Hockey system. He remained in the North River Association throughout his entire minor hockey career. In his first year of midget , his A team won the George Trainor tournament in Charlottetown. In his second year of midget he played AAA and he made the 2nd all star team for the Island. Last year, his Midget A team won a tournament in O'Leary and he had shutouts in his last 3 games and only allowed 2 goals in the entire tournament. "We have an exceptionally good team and have a great chance to win the Island Championship this year", said Young. He further added, "There will no heartbreaks this year, we are determined to win." Jonathan has a 4 and 0 record in league play this year and has a very respectful 2.25 goals against average and has one shutout.
His favorite NHL team is the Montreal Canadiens and his favorite player is Chad Fleming of the Flames.
Jonathan is in his first year of engineering at UPEI.
