The PEI Minor Junior Hockey League champion will be crowned on Saturday night at 7:30 in Tignish when the Aces host the North River Flames for game 7 in what has become an exciting series.
This will be the last of 13 meetings this season between these two teams to determine who represents PEI at next weekend's Maritime-Hockey North Junior C Championships in Barrington. The host Ice Dogs, Nova Scotia finalist Avon River Rats, and New Brunswick Champion Hampton Hurricanes will join the winner of Saturday night's game and Team Nunavut next weekend. The Nunavut representative will be decided this weekend in Rankin Inlet when Team Kivalliq and Team Baffin will face off in a best-of-three series. Another tight game can be expected with hard hitting and a nailbiter finish. Over 400 spectators were at APM Centre for game 6, but more are expected for the winner-take-all matchup at Credit Union Arena. It's rare that you get to a see a matchup in any league between teams with such a strong rivalry and history against each other. Last year they met in the finals and again in the regionals to determine who would move on to the playoff round. Tignish eliminated North River both times and has home ice advantage this time around but these teams are so evenly matched, it's impossible to pick a winner. It's hard to imagine a game with more build-up than this one, so if you get the chance, head to the Credit Union Arena to see some entertaining Junior hockey.
