The plans are in place for Wednesday night's Razzy's Junior C All-Star Game in Rustico where a team of league alumni will face-off against the 2013 Razzy's Junior C Hockey League All-Star Team. A portion of the proceeds from the game will go to support former Charlottetown player, Kyle Osmond, who is undergoing cancer treatment and is unable to play in his last season of junior eligibility.
Osmond has told the league that he will be on hand for the game. "He told me he's looking forward to the game and appreciates the league's support", says league commissioner, Jared Doucette. "It's great he could take the time out of his busy schedule to make the night a little more special."
The league has received lots of interest and support in the weeks leading up to the game. Almost all costs of the game have been donated, including the game's referee, Jeff Affleck, who is a former Junior C goaltender for Morell and Montague in the late 90's early 2000s, and currently officiates several league games as a Hockey PEI official. Other costs of the game, including ice time has been covered by the game's title sponsor, the Stella Maris Credit Union.
Doucette will captain the alumni team. "Most of our players have been out of the league for a number of years and once your out of junior, that's pretty much it for your competitive career. There's a few who are playing senior hockey, but most are playing rec/pickup for their hockey fix which is just not the same, so this will be a fun opportunity."
The alumni team will have a former league coach, Paul "Bruno" Bernard, behind the bench with the coaching staff of the league-leading South Side MacDonald's Excavation / EF MacPhee Lynx leading the All-Star team. Bernard coached the Charlottetown Jr. C team to several island championships and atlantic championships during his tenure as coach in the late 90's and early 2000's. Long time Tignish Perry's Constructin Aces trainer, Earl Shea, will be on the bench as well.
Game time at the North Star Arena is 7:20 on Wed., Jan. 16th and there will be a donation box for Osmond at the door.
