Although the Kings County Junior B franchise will be in Montague in 2008-09 under a new name, Souris still plans to have competitive Junior hockey for the upcoming season. The Souris Boathaulers had representatives at the initial league meeting last night with the intent of bringing back a minor junior franchise for the first time since the Souris Hawks left the league in 2000. The 2000 Hawks lost in the Island Final to the eventual Atlantic Champion Charlottetown Abbies that season.
The league will continue to operate under Minor Junior rules for 2008-09. Any other teams interested in entering the league for the upcoming season have until October 1st to indicate their interest in entering a team. If interested, teams should contact league commissioner, Jared Doucette, at peiminorjuniorc@hotmail.com.
The regular season is scheduled to begin at or around October 23rd.
