On Tuesday night, the Razzy's Junior C Hockey League approved a change that would see its players authorized to wear half visors instead of full face shields for the 2011-12 season. The move will bring PEI's league in line with other Junior leagues in the region. The island league was the only Junior league in Atlantic Canada to operate with a full sheild requirement. In addition to this change, the league has decided to make mouth guards and neck guards mandatory for all players.
Nine teams are expected to take the ice in 2011-12 after the league accepted Tyne Valley's bid to ice a team on Tuesday night. Tyne Valley has been a member of the league in the past, but has not iced a team since the 2005-06 season. In addition to the expansion franchise, the 9-team league had representatives from the island champion Charlottetown Abbies, Tignish, North River, Montague, Morell, Pownal, Holland College, and South Side who all intend to return when the regular season begins in late-October. The league has not had this many teams participate since the 2004-05 season when 10 teams were represented.
