The Razzy's Junior C Playoffs get underway on Friday night when all three best-of-five quarter-final series' open up. The #2 Down East Auto Parts Sabres open up at home against the #7 Sherwood Falcons at 8:30. Although they had a 3-5 January, the Sabres are entering the playoffs on a three-game winning streak and have defeated the Falcons in all four regular season meetings. Sherwood is a new team with a lot of 1995-born players and have struggled with injuries this season, but will try to pull off an upset in the opening round. At 7:30 in Tignish, the #3 Tignish Perry's Construction Aces will begin defense of their Island Championship against their rival #6 North River Island Excavators Flames. The Aces have struggled with numbers over the season due to injuries and work commitments, but are always at their best in the playoffs. They will be lead offensively by Riley Shea, who had a 50-point season which was good for second in league scoring. The Flames top scorer, Cameron MacMurdo is having his best season and goaltender Taylor Doyle has been known to steal games when the team is not performing at its best. At Slemon Park, two expansion teams will face off in what is likely to be a long series. At 8:25 the #5 Souris Hawks will visit the #4 Summerside Source for Sports Capitals. Souris came out of the gate strong, with six straight wins to start the season, and will be looking to return to that form in the playoffs. Forward Darcy Nicholson will be counted on to get the offence going again in the playoffs. Conversely, the Capitals struggled out of the gate, but finished the season with a 9-3 record in their last 11 games. The strong goaltending of Catlin Sonier will be key to their success in the post-season. The idle #1 South Side MacDonald's Excavation / EF MacPhee Lynx earned a first-round bye with a 23-2-3 regular season record. The Lynx have the league's scoring title winner, Rob Miller, leading them offensively, and the league's leading goaltender, John Miller, manning the pipes. The eventual Island Champion will represent PEI at the Maritime-Hockey North Junior C Championships in Liverpool, NS, March 26-30th.
